Why did you decide to join Roche?

I joined Roche in 2004 while I was finishing my Masters in Computer Science. I was working on a shortterm three month contract migrating data between two document management systems. Roche was just setting up the Informatics team in Warsaw and I applied for a full-time. The position seemed like a good blend of my education and my passion for Information Technology. Although 14 years might seem like a long time to be with one company, I’ve had many opportunities to take on new roles and new challenges. A great example is that I just recently moved to Canada to become a Senior Team Manager in the Global IT Solution center in Mississauga. My career with Roche has been quite a journey, allowing me to always learn new things and meet new people from different parts of the organization and all over the world.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I was born in a beautiful area in northern Poland called Mazury, which is famous for having over 3,000 lakes. I visit Poland whenever I can to enjoy the views of the natural landscape. During my downtime, I spend every available moment with my family, which keeps me very occupied. We enjoy riding our bikes, playing with Lego and enjoying nature. My family was always connected to healthcare. My older sister is a doctor and my mother is a pharmacist, so I was naturally drawn to this field. I applied to medical school, but a few days after I got accepted, I decided not to pursue this route. Instead, I followed my heart and my passion, studying IT at the Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology in Warsaw.

What is your current position at Roche Canada?

I am currently a Senior Team Manager working in Roche Global IT Solution Center. I am a part of a global IT team that partners with local IT teams across North America.

What can you tell us about your work environment at your location?

I am currently working in Mississauga, the sixth biggest city in Canada and part of Greater Toronto Area. The office location, the building itself and the work space are great. There are a lot of amenities in the building, such as an on-site gym, cafeteria and a rejuvenation room. Working in the same building with the local Roche Canada commercial affiliate and many other global IT groups makes the experience unique. By working together, we truly are one IT team.

How would you describe the people working here?

People here are amazing - inclusive, open and caring. Roche Mississauga is one of the most diverse environments I have ever experienced. The people are professional and true experts in what they do. The culture is very open and people are easily approachable. Everyone takes time to listen to others, peoples’ opinions are valued and every individual is encouraged to express their own point of view. This diversity is one of our biggest strengths.
