Today both Divisions are applying this knowledge and a wide range of technologies in the pursuit of new tests and more targeted treatments in five major focus areas: oncology, inflammation, neuroscience, metabolism and virology. At the same time they are working together to gain further insights into molecular mechanisms that cause and drive disease.

Every cancer drug development programme at Roche, for example, involves biomarker research aimed at validating treatment targets and identifying the patients most likely to respond to a new drug. Almost 30 years of cancer research at the molecular level have helped us develop new strategies that move us closer to the ultimate goal of one day curing cancer.
