Requests

Clearly defined responsibilities

Roche operates a global policy defining donations and sponsorship at the local level. This means that Roche affiliate companies can manage their own activities within a common framework, in areas that are most beneficial to them, within the given focus, conditions, and restrictions.

  • Local management teams are responsible for both product-related (commercial) sponsoring and non-product-related donations and sponsorship activities. Projects requiring division-level resources are referred to the appropriate division; projects requiring corporate resources and/or inter-divisional or international cooperation must be approved by Corporate Donations and Sponsorship.
  • In humanitarian emergencies, Roche’s local management teams work with local authorities and relief organisations to identify immediate medical needs, and then submit a request for emergency aid from existing funds through Roche’s Corporate Issue Taskforce or Corporate Donations and Sponsorship. In response to major catastrophes, these teams work together to coordinate efforts with established external partners such as the International Committee of the Red Cross at an international level, while local management teams coordinate ground level logistics with local partners.
  • When funds are required to carry out reconstruction work in the days or weeks after a natural disaster or other humanitarian crisis, Roche consults through local management with experts and aid organisations on the scene. If Roche believes that insufficient local resources are available and support can make a sustainable difference, Roche may contribute to reconstruction projects.
  • Research projects are evaluated on a local level by Roche’s local research organisation.
  • Support for educational programmes or for young scientists is generally arranged by local management or the local human resources department.

In Switzerland, our local management teams are responsible for neighbourhood relations and employee-driven community programmes, while Corporate Donations and Sponsorship is responsible for all national, political, social, and cultural projects

How to make a request

  • Requests for support should be directed to local management so that Roche can respond as quickly as possible.
  • Requests must include a project description, supporting documentation and a personally signed covering letter. Otherwise it is impossible to review the merits of requests. Requests that are not adequately documented will not be considered.
  • Roche has no legal obligation to fund projects.
  • Research projects are evaluated by Roche’s local research organisation or by a local research foundation such as the Roche Research Foundation.
