Criteria

Roche wants to be a reliable, long-term and active partner. Accordingly, we focus our resources on a small number of selected projects where our contribution can make a real difference rather than spread the limited funds available amoung a vast number of projects.

Selection Criteria

  • Roche clearly separates commercial from non-commercial projects. Commercial projects are the responsibility of Roche’s operating divisions, and the costs are reported as marketing and distribution expenses.
  • Roche supports innovative, high-quality projects.
  • Roche supports projects that contribute to sustainable development
  • Roche only supports projects in which Roche can become actively involved and has an opportunity to use its expertise and logistics capabilities.
  • Roche seeks close and active involvement at an early stage with the local authorities and competent, respected local partners.
  • Priority is given to funding cultural and social projects in which Roche employees are involved.

Restrictions

  • Roche does not support projects with a religious, political, commercial or image-building purpose.
  • Roche does not fund professional or semi-professional sporting events or mainstream cultural events
  • Roche provides direct support rather than collect funds on behalf of third parties. Only in exceptional cases Roche participates in charity fund-raising events.
  • Drug donations are restricted to assisting emergency relief efforts and are based on specific requests from established local partners or international aid organisations.
  • Roche does not support projects intended to replace or compete with government programmes.

Roche only makes political donations in specific exceptional cases, and only in line with prevailing legal and ethical standards. These donations are made to political organisations, never to individuals. Political donations account for less than 0.05% of our total giving.
