Safety

Roche lives up to high safety standards to prevent damage to people, the environment and the business that could potentially occur as a result of our activities. We recognize this to be prerequisite for ensuring business continuity.
We accomplish high safety levels by the consequent implementation of technical safety measures and strict adherence to safe work processes and procedures. To identify required safety measures and procedures we use systematic risk assessments for all activities that could potentially harm people, environment or business. Our focus lies on the prevention of incidents and the minimization of incident consequences. Should incidents occur in spite of all prevention measures, we are prepared to master incidents to keep impacts low. This includes the availability of well trained and equipped crisis management and emergency response teams.
We support all sites and functions in regard to safety through our network of local SHE Officers. Since having competent and informed employees is a basic prerequisite for safe activities, we train all key personnel in safety matters and risk mitigation methodologies. To increase awareness and to prevent the (re)occurrence of unwanted events, we communicate best practices and lessons learned from internal and external incidents and near misses.
To monitor our safety performance we gather safety relevant data, which is used for statistical evaluations, for defining areas for improvement and to define safety targets. All operations are periodically audited to assess safety levels, to identify gaps and to define improvement measures.
