Hi, my name is…

…Thais. I have a PhD in pharmacy, a postgraduate degree in business administration and an MBA in project management and lean certification. I started my career at Roche Pharma Brazil in 2004 where I was responsible for establishing and overseeing clinical trial projects as a Country Study Manager. I joined the Roche Diagnostics Division in Brazil in 2010 as a Workflow Solutions Manager to support the development of the consultancy area. In this role, I was involved in high-impact consultancy projects, performing cost analyses, resource optimization and layout design for laboratory process reorganisations. Later - as a Lab Consultancy and Information Solutions Manager in 2013 - I was responsible for the Consultancy and IT teams in the design and project management of Automation and IT Projects. In November 2016 I took over the role of Head of Global Consultancy in Roche Diagnostics International, Switzerland, being accountable for developing Consultancy Services on a global level.

My typical day at work is …

…dominated by mediation. In my position I interact between different areas across the organisation to promote this new area as consultancy is already established in many countries but has not had global representation. One of my aims is to make this visible to our organisation. This means that a typical day is full of meetings, allowing me to meet new people, learn more about a global organisational environment and introduce our area strategic plan as well as other activities already in place. Another one of my top priorities is to develop my team members, to make them part of this important opportunity and to create something new at a global level. Without a strong, aligned and motivated team, no goals can be achieved.

The location I am working at is…

Rotkreuz, Switzerland and Waiblingen, Germany. The team is split into these two locations. One of the current main tasks of the Global Consultancy team is to support country organisations with the design of automation solutions to improve laboratory efficiency, and this is why part of the team is at our Roche PVT site in Germany.

My work helps Roche to …

… grow its business and to understand real customer needs for future development. All the solutions we offer are tailor-made because each customer is unique. Consultancy looks for cost-effective solutions to improve efficiency and quality in laboratories/hospitals by automating manual steps and integrating diagnostics results. We also help our customers to improve their processes and business results through lean methodology and strategic approaches. The diagnostics market is becoming more complex and competitive: Consultancy is a differentiator that makes it possible to overcome those challenges.

Roche as an employer is…

… great because you feel empowered here. I have been working at Roche for more than 10 years already and I have been able to develop not only professionally, but also personally. Having the opportunity to work in both divisions – Pharma and Diagnostics - and now in a global role is a good example of how Roche has supported me in my career. And this is also connected to how Roche views and invests in its leaders, supporting them to discover their talents. Our first leadership commitment is “I take a genuine interest in people”. I am now in the Workflow and IT business area and feel very happy to be part of a team made up of engaged people. We work hard to support our affiliates and we also have a lot of fun together. To paraphrase a Confucius quote: “Choose a company you love to work for and you will never have to work a day in your life”.

In my team/department we are looking for someone who…

… is committed to building something new. As Consultancy is a recently formed area on the global level, we need people who have energy, creativity, courage and the ability to develop their own position. There are two vacant International Projects Consultant roles and I am looking for two different profiles: one with knowledge about our current portfolio and experience in consultancy for automation and IT solutions; and one with an IT consultancy background.

How would you describe working at Roche in three words?

Courage. Integrity. Passion.
