Meet Sharon

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I was born in the Philippines, and in my blood runs a truly proud Filipino. I am the third oldest of seven children and I am blessed to have a loving and supportive parents. Prior to joining Roche, I have been working (IT world) for more than 10 years with project assignments in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan and Beijing.

I am happily-married to a loving Spanish for more than two years now, and since then, enjoying the life of being a wife and career woman. In my free time, I like spending it by just having a walk or going to the mountains . I also make sure that I always have time to prepare a new recipe once a week. Yes, I just love cooking and eating.

Where did you study?

I finished my Bachelor´s Degree major in Computer Science at the Saint Louis University, Philippines. And completed my Advanced Project Management course at the Ateneo Graduates School, Manila.

In which Roche location are you currently working?

I am currently based in Madrid, working at the Madrid Shared Services Center – Global Informatics.

What can you tell us about that location?

The Madrid Shared Service Center is where the majority AE&O is based. Provides support to Global Roche infrastructure - from design to operations and it is provided to the various Group Informatics functions and areas.

Composed of more than 200 employees with University degrees (Master/Bachelor).

When you see a long queue of Chinese people waiting in front of the gate of this building, don´t be bothered, you are in the right office. Yes, the office of Roche is shared with Chinese Embassy owning the 1st floor of this building.

You will see 90% young people and most of them are men. Yes, Madrid site composed mostly of young people from late 20s to late 30s.

Why did you decide to join Roche?

I started as an external contractor and fortunately during these times, I got the opportunity to experience to be such in so called “ a great place to work for”. Why? It is a place where I felt supported, respected and treated with fairness., regardless of race I came from and level of organization I am involved with. Leaders in this organization possess credibility driven by their loyalty, passion and commitment to their respective job. And these values are transmitted to us through open communication, proper guidance and support, career developments plan and provided always a room to learn more. And because of this, when I was offered a permanent position, no doubt nor did I think twice to accept it.

What is your current job?

I am very fortunate to be part of the Global IT Infrastructure Quality Services as one of the IT Senior Quality Specialist. Responsible in providing quality support to IT projects or to IT programs, we own and implement the IT Infrastructure Qualification, we provide Q-guidance, Q-consultation or compliance guidance to any related quality topics needed in the daily operations of AE&O. We also support implementation of PMM, CSV, and ITIL processes.

What makes it such a great job?

Working in highly regulated environment requires rigorous quality standards and strict compliance to it, to ensure products are not a danger to the general public. Even being involved in a small part in this huge quality organization of Roche, I believe that I have this great responsibility towards ensuring my job is done properly as this serves as one of the components that ensure general public safety. Having this great responsibility makes it such a great job.

What makes it more exciting is that, being involved in the IT quality side, as IT is a world of constant change and innovation, therefore it requires constant quality assessment and ensuring consistent compliance to the existing and emerging regulations. This gives excitement yet challenging job.

Furthermore, this job gives me more opportunity to talk to people from different functions and locations, therefore being exposed outside Madrid.

What do you foresee as your next career step?

Each day is unique and a learning step, and my supervisor is very supportive in providing me trainings, challenging work, experiences, network to be ready to whichever career path in Roche will direct me in the future .
