Tell us a bit about yourself!

I consider myself as a hardworking young professional, who is always eager to learn and gain new experiences. I have a passion for travelling and working for Roche has given me the opportunity to visit different countries and also experience different cultures.  I am energetic, resourceful and not to mention efficient. My first option in choosing a career was to consider traditional careers such as law which clearly did not work for me.  I believe in always evolving myself so that I can remain relevant in every possible way.

I worked for a well-known telecommunication company for 4 years and during this time, I completed my studies in Business administration. I have changed career and now I am about to complete my studies in Supply Chain.

In which Roche location do you currently work and what can you tell us about that location as a work environment?

I am currently based in Germany, working for Roche GmbH on a 6 months international assignment as a project manager. The global office has exposed me to a different working culture, which is challenging at the beginning. The language, transport system way of living is totally different to what I was used to in South Africa. I learnt the importance of building relationships with how to work together with other colleagues to achieve results. The campus in Mannheim is so big, I have to ride a bike to get to another building. I had to learn how to ride a bike, which was fun. I like how efficient public transport is, getting to work and back is convenient, quick and safe.

Why did you decide to join Roche and why at this location?

I wanted to work for Roche because its values align with my personal. I love the fact that the company nurtures and develops its employees and recognizes that its people are its assets. Roche makes an impact socially and economically. Roche gives all employees an equal opportunity to grow in their career.

What is your current position at Roche?

Customer Service Manager (Sub Sahara Africa) – I am responsible for the order management and outbound logistics to 20 African English speaking countries. One of my major tasks is to ensure that order fulfilment is enabled in a fast, reliable and more efficient service as possible. I get to travel within the African continent to make sure I understand the needs of our customers. What I enjoy most about my job is being able to interact with people from different cultures and backgrounds. I recognize that the work I do contributes towards giving millions of Africans a chance to a better life by improving their health situation. Travelling in Africa and working in Germany has given me a new perspective on communication and tolerance of other people working styles.

How would you describe Roche as an employer?

Roche is a great company to work for; it is diverse, rewards hard work, compensate its people fairly and offers the same quality training to all its employees irrespective of your location.

How would you describe the people working here?

We have people from different cultural and educational backgrounds but everyone works cohesively together to ensure that business needs are met. I believe that the organization as a whole has fostered really good teams for the greater good of the company. I really appreciate the work ethic and integrity of my fellow colleagues. We have differences but we all are working together towards upholding the company’s governance structures and policies.

How is your job connected to “doing now what patients need next”?

I contribute by ensuring that order fulfilment is enabled in a fast, reliable and efficiently.
