Meet Flora, Product Information Representative in Malaysia
Tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Flora. Fun, funny and fascinating Flora! I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Science from University Tunku Abdul Rahman back in 2013. I love meeting and engaging with people as I’ve always believed that building relationships with different individuals helps me learn and discover the diversity of perceptions while being inspired by their capabilities. Most importantly, having meaningful relationships with others, being able to help and be helped is the element that I believe makes our living beautiful. I started my first job as a claims assessor in an insurance company. The daily routine back then can be monotonous and dull, hence, to spice things up, I enjoyed getting my teammates together for team building activities and also organising team outings to get everyone engaged as a “family”. On top of that, having an adventurous personality myself makes me someone who loves to explore different life experiences. I’ve tried hosting roadshows for a local broadcast company in a few states in Malaysia and was also casted in local Chinese dramas part-time. Versatility is part of my personality!
In which Roche location do you currently work and what can you tell us about that location as a work environment?
I’m currently based in Johor Bahru. I have a very dynamic working environment whereby my work requires me to visit both government and private hospitals in Johor Bahru, Batu Pahat, Muar, Melaka, Seremban and Nilai. The best thing about having such mobility? The local delicacies!
Why did you decide to join Roche and why at this location?
I wanted to explore a new role and new industry. After some research on the internet, I found that Roche is one of the top 10 most reputable pharmaceutical companies worldwide. Why Johor Bahru? Nothing beats the happiness and joy of returning home to family.
What is your current position at Roche?
I am currently a Product Information Representative within the cancer care unit in Roche. There are three oncology products under my responsibility. As all these innovative therapies play a part in improving the quality of life and survival rate of cancer patients, it’s fulfilling to know that I am playing a part in providing hope to cancer patients.
As my role requires me to be constantly updated with the advancement in science and cancer treatments, being able to learn, share and discuss these updates with healthcare professionals keeps things interesting too!
I am also fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to be part of the organising committee for a national conference supported by Roche. This has brought my experience and interest as an ‘event organiser’ to the next level!
How would you describe Roche as an employer?
Roche is a company that actively listens to its employee’s needs. I appreciate the platform provided by Roche in terms of career development and growth within the company. The programmes for professional and self-improvement put into place have helped build and prepare me for various challenges.
Roche also encourages its employees to live a healthy lifestyle and shows support by subsidising registration fees for various sport events like marathons, cycling and more! As a matter of fact, we have a running group called the ‘Roche Boleh Runners’!
How would you describe the people working here?
Roche is a place where one would receive strong support from teammates, have colleagues who are sincerely helpful and always motivating, and be with a group of highly motivated people who constantly seek to aim higher for patients, the company, their team members and themselves.
How is your job connected to “doing now what patients need next”?
My role as a Product Information Representative and having a patient-centric mindset gives me the opportunity to discuss with healthcare professionals on suitable treatment options for patients to achieve optimum outcome.
