Alpha-Glucosidase inhibitors
Substance which inhibits the breakdown of certain sugars (disaccharides) in the mucous membrane of the small intestine by inhibiting the enzymes which split disaccharides into monosaccharides. Only monosaccharides can be absorbed in the intestine, which means that alpha-glucosidase inhibitors decrease the uptake of glucose from the intestine into blood. alpha-Glucosidase inhibitors are used in type 2 diabetes. Cf. antidiabetic drugs
