Citrate cycle
also known as the citric acid cycle, tricarboxylic acid cycle or the Krebs cycle

Cyclic sequence of chemical reactions in cellular metabolism, which may for example be coupled to glycolysis. Its functions include the breakdown of carbohydrates, aminoacids and fatty acids, for the production of energy and the synthesis of intermediary products for biosynthetic reactions. The citrate cycle produces molecules which enter the so-called respiratory chain for further energy production.
