Aldosterone
Aldosterone is the most important of the mineral corticoids, which are hormones formed in the adrenal cortex and which regulate mineral balance. Together with the enzyme renin and the hormone angiotensin (renin-angiotensin system), it regulates electrolyte and water balance and, consequent to this, blood volume and blood pressure. Specific actions of aldosterone include an increase in sodium reuptake into the blood at the end of the passage through the kidney and increased renal excretion of potassium.
