Biomarker
Biomarkers are measurable biological indicators that can be used to evaluate normal biologic and/or disease processes or responses to a drug or treatment.

This broad definition includes all diagnostic tests, imaging technologies and any other objective measure of a person’s health status. Thus, biomarkers are not new, but because of a large number of new tools such as proteomics and genomics, researchers are discovering many novel markers that may have great applicability to improving drug development and healthcare.
