Spleen
The spleen lies in the left upper abdomen near the diaphragm. A healthy spleen cannot be felt through the abdominal wall. The spleen is connected to the blood circulation and is part of the lymphatic system. Aged or damaged blood cells, microorganisms and other products of the immune system are broken down by macrophages in the spleen. The spleen also participates in the development of the specific properties of the B- and T-cells.
