Cytostatic Drugs
Drugs which prevent or delay cell growth, particularly cell division. Cytostatic drugs only act on cells which are growing, not those in the resting stage. Cytostatic drugs are used in tumour therapy (see chemotherapy), as tumour cells are not subject to normal physiological growth controls and divide more rapidly than do normal cells. They are therefore more sensitive to the drugs than are healthy normal cells.
